Asha Sobhana is an Indian all-rounder cricketer who currently plays for the UP Warriorz in the Women's Premier League (WPL) and represents the Pondicherry women's team in domestic cricket. A prominent leg-spinner, she is the only Indian player to have taken a five-wicket haul in the history of the WPL.

  • International: India Women

  • Domestic Teams: She played for Kerala from 2006/07 to 2018/19, followed by a long stint with the Railways team (2013/14–2021/22). She currently represents Pondicherry in domestic competitions.

  • WPL Teams: She was signed by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the inaugural 2023 WPL season and was an integral part of their title-winning campaign in 2024. In the WPL 2026 mega auction, she was acquired by the UP Warriorz for an impressive ₹1.10 crore.

Records And Achievements

  • First Indian player to take a five-wicket haul in the WPL: She achieved figures of 5/22 (or 5/26 from other source) against UP Warriorz during the 2024 WPL season.

  • Second highest wicket-taker in the 2024 WPL season: She finished with 12 wickets in ten matches, tied with teammate Sophie Molineux.

  • Oldest Indian female cricketer to debut for India: She earned her maiden international call-up and made her T20I debut at the age of 33 in May 2024.

  • First Malayali woman to play in an ICC Women's World Cup.

  • In the 2023-24 Women's Senior One Day Trophy, she was the leading wicket-taker for Puducherry and the only player in the tournament to score more than 200 runs and take more than 10 wickets.
